BOSTON, MA (August 31, 2015) – The Children’s Trust, Massachusetts’ leading family support organization, announced today that it will honor Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh at its Evening of Promise gala to be held November 14th at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

The Children’s Trust selected Mayor Walsh as its honoree for his dedication to supporting children and families in Boston and across Massachusetts, said Suzin Bartley, Executive Director of the Children’s Trust.

“Mayor Walsh is ardent in his commitment to community and dedicated to ensuring that every child reaches their full potential,” Bartley said.

“He understands that an investment in family support programs, like those supported and provided by the Children’s Trust, leads to the long-term well-being of children, including improvements in health, education, and social outcomes that benefit us all,” added Bartley. “We are thrilled to be honoring the Mayor.”

"I am honored by this recognition from the Children's Trust," said Mayor Walsh. "For years, this organization has put the welfare of our youngest and some of our most vulnerable residents first, and I thank them for the work that they do."

Prior to becoming Boston’s 54th Mayor, Mayor Walsh served 16 years in the Massachusetts House of Representatives where he established himself as a leader on education, economic, and civil rights issues related to creating a Commonwealth where residents thrive. He developed a strong record of supporting working people and families, communities of color, immigrants, and all the people of the state.

The Evening of Promise gala is the Children’s Trust’s largest annual fundraiser. The elegant and fun evening features silent and live auctions and dining. Past honorees have included Senator William “Mo” Cowan; Governor Baker; the late Governor Paul Cellucci; Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce CEO James E. Rooney, who serves as Chair of the Board of Directors at the Children’s Trust, and former State Senate Presidents Therese Murray and Robert E. Travaglini.
